Simple Guide to UK Betting Terminology
UK Bookmakers generally refer to the following types of bets. A good understanding of these is key to using our betting odds calculator.
SINGLE
| Single - |
The most basic type of bet. Simply a bet on one single individual selection to occur e.g. Manchester United to Win against Chelsea. |
MULTIPLES
Multiple bets are a group of single bets, you must win all the individual bets to win. The working of the bet is that you bet on Manchester United to win Chelsea, if this wins the returns are automatically bet on your next selection. The advantage of multiples is that as your returns are re-invested your potential winnings are far larger than placing singles.
| Double - |
A set of 2 singles where the 2 selections must both win or you lose your full stake. |
| Treble - |
A set of 3 singles where the 3 selections must all win or you lose your full stake. |
| Accumulator - |
A set of 4 or more single where all the selections must win or you lose your full stake. You could have an accumulator involving any number of individual selections. A 4 bet accumulator is often called a fourfold, a 5 selection accumulator is known as a fivefold and so on. |
FULL COVER BETS
Full cover bets is a bet comprising a package of bets covering all possible doubles, trebles and accumulators for a given selection of bets. This provides the benefit of the multiples i.e. returns re-invested plus an added element of safety as not all the selections must win to be paid out, only two selections must win to payout on the double.
| Trixie - |
A bet on 3 individual selections packaged into 4 separate bets – 1 treble on all 3 selections winning and 3 doubles on all possible double outcomes. Therefore provided 2 of the 3 selections win a payout is made. A larger payout is made if all 3 selections win as you have won all 4 individual bets, i.e. the 3 doubles and the treble. |
| Yankee - |
A bet on 4 individual selections packaged into 11 separate bets – 1 fourfold accumulator, 4 trebles and 6 doubles. Provided 2 of the 4 selections win a payout is made on the winning double bets. A larger payout is made if 3 of the 4 selections as more of the doubles bets will be winners and some of the trebles will win. An even larger payout is made if all 4 selections win as all 11 bets are winners. |
| Canadian aka Super Yankee - |
A bet on 5 individual selections packaged into 26 separate bets – 1 fivefold accumulator, 5 fourfold accumulators, 10 trebles and 10 doubles. |
| Heinz - |
A bet on 6 individual selections packaged into 57 separate bets – 1 sixfold accumulator, 6 fivefold accumulators, 15 fourfold accumulators, 20 trebles and 15 doubles. |
FULL COVER BETS + SINGLES
Essentially the same as the full cover bets above e.g. trixie, yankee, Canadian and Heinz but with single bets placed on all the individual selections. Therefore only one of the selections must win for a payout.

A bet on 3 selections packaged into 7 separate bets – 1 treble, 3 doubles and 3 singles. |
| Lucky 15 - |
A bet on 4 selections packaged into 15 separate bets - 1 fourfold, 4 trebles, 6 doubles and 4 singles. |
| Lucky 31 - |
A bet on 5 selections packaged into 31 separate bets - 1 fivefold, 5 fourfolds, 10 trebles, 10 doubles and 5 singles. |
| Lucky 63 - |
A bet on 6 selections packaged into 63 separate bets – 1 sixfold, 6 fivefolds, 15 fourfolds, 20 trebles, 15 doubles and 6 singles. |
